I am grateful for hot cocoa, electric blankets, and warm socks.

Okay, how the HELL did I miss that Spider and Jeanne have a blog? It's at the link, for my friends who also didn't know. Oh yeah, and I'm grateful for it. http://stardancemovie.blogspot.com/

I am grateful for the freedom of religion in this country that allows me to be grateful to who or what I choose to be grateful to, and you to do the same.

Today I am grateful for the inner strength I have gained over the years that allows me to realize, when I'm behind on NaNoWriMo because life got in the way, that not writing for a couple of days does not make me a failure, only a person who will have to work harder for the rest of the month to meet the goal.

I am grateful for good tires on my car in this slushy mix outside. I'd be more grateful if I didn't have to go anywhere.

I'm grateful that I long ago learned how to get by on four hours of sleep when the sleep fairy fails to visit me on a work night.

I am grateful that our society (largely thanks to unions) structures its workweek so I have not one, but TWO days to be at home with my family each week. Happy Friday! I'm also grateful I don't suffer from triskaidekaphobia and that I know Robert Englund is really a sweet little lizard alien and not the unholy son of a nun raped by a gang of mental patients.

I am grateful to our veterans who have served our country in their many capacities, and also to the many, many civilians who also serve in underpaid, underappreciated jobs that are critically necessary to our society. Teachers, nurses, child care workers, social workers, librarians, police and fire officers, I'm talking to YOU!

I am grateful for hot and cold running water that appears magickally with a simple twist of the wrist (and for the underlying magick... err, I mean science)

I am grateful that the voters in my city and county saw fit to fund sane(r) drug policy and school infrastructure in this latest election. The COMBAT drug tax has seen my city go from "the meth capital of the world" to a liveable, workable working class city with a great deal of history and character. It has funded alternative courts for mentally ill and addicted criminals, and several excellent treatment programs.

I am grateful for the periodic, planned peaceful revolutions in America we call "elections". Even with all the flaws of the democratic system, not least of which is to not take action on critical issues until they have reached crisis levels, it is still the best game in town.

I am grateful for the internet and the online culture it has spawned, that allow me to send virtual ((hugs)) and ((tickles)) to friends across the globe from me who are having a bad day.

I am grateful for stylists that understand that when going from blond to auburn, it is important to add brown to the formulation to stave off orangeness. (Frankly, I love the color. I'm not used to it, and I don't see *me* in the mirror, but I love it).

I am grateful that my youngest son gets a day off school today (teacher planning day) so that he can get a break from the stress of junior high. I hated junior high, and he's following in my footsteps.

I am grateful for hot cocoa, and heating pads, and warm, cuddly blankets. No, it's not that cold, but I hurt my left hip yesterday, and all of these comfort measures helped.

I am grateful for thrift stores, where I find great bargains and where people who cannot afford to shop elsewhere can find completely acceptable work and fun clothes, furniture, and miscellaneous necessities.

I am grateful for yarn sales at my local yarn shop, and the tools and talent to work with what I find there.

As promised to Tonia yesterday, I am grateful for fax machines. Sounds pretty prosaic, but a fax machine made a very difficult situation yesterday much better.

I am grateful for the help that was available to me when I needed it most, that helped me get a roof over my head, go back to school, pay for daycare, food, and medical care, and supplement the meager income I made waiting tables, that enabled me to be the comfortably middle class, well educated person I am today.

Today I am grateful for paved, well marked and maintained roads and safe vehicles, brought to me courtesy of local, state and federal government, and the good folks at the various companies involved.
